Paper Collage Couture

Growing up in the 60's, I learned the basics of garment construction. The clothing was fitted and complex; I was neither patient nor exact. In my mind, two dimensions were more enjoyable than three, so I transferred my efforts from fabric to paper. Enthralled by paper doll wardrobes as well as fashion pictures, catalogues, and illustrations, I designed, colored and cut out my own creations. The Paper Couture Collection revisits and reinvents my childhood pastime of playing with paper dolls and wardrobes. I sketch a garment, draw a pattern, and use paper, varied in color, texture, weight and design to create the illusion of fabric and provide hints of the body through gesture and form.
